At Talent Is Timeless, we spotlight some of the incredible songwriters who are part of our community — inviting them to share more about their lives, their creative journeys, and the stories behind their songs. This month, we’re featuring Glen King, an 89-year-old songwriter from Virginia, who has been part of the Talent Is Timeless community since January 2022.

Glen won in the Annual Contest – Lyrics category with his aptly titled song It’s Never Too Late— a piece that grew out of a simple community prompt, but struck a powerful chord. “I was completely stunned,” he says of learning the song had won.
Glen’s songwriting journey began in 1968, in an unexpected and life-changing moment. Gary Wright, later famous for Dreamweaver, stopped by Glen’s house in Los Angeles to look at a car he was selling. “I told him I was a coffee house poet, and he asked if I’d ever written songs,” Glen recalls. Wright gave him a melody to try, and Glen’s words became Blues Town, recorded by Spooky Tooth — still available today on YouTube. “No stopping me from there,” Glen says.
Since then, his songs have been recorded by many artists, and he’s won numerous contests, including one sponsored by the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985. But even with decades of experience, Glen has found new joy and connection in the Talent Is Timeless community. His advice to other songwriters over 50? Simple, but powerful: “No limits on age. I’m 89 and still knocking them out.” Glen’s journey is proof that creativity knows no expiration date — and that it’s truly never too late to write the song that changes everything.
