Course overview

A practical, five‑week series led by Olie King—singer‑songwriter, rapper and producer with credits across rap, pop and folk, and the creative force behind The Gemini Moon Collective. Each level meets for 60 minutes weekly and combines short Q&A, focused teaching, and live demonstrations (vocals, acoustic instruments, keys; drums excluded). The aim is a clear, repeatable workflow for recording at home—whatever your setup.

Beginner — Getting started

• Equipment recommendations for every budget

• Choosing a DAW that suits your workflow (Logic or GarageBand)

• Signal flow basics & setting levels

• Vocal recording at home: mic technique, gain staging, noise control

• Acoustic instrument capture (guitar/piano/keys; DI vs mic)

• Introduction to multi‑track recording and simple edits

Intermediate — Make it sound better

• Smart home‑studio upgrades (room, monitoring, templates)

• Vocal production: comping, tasteful tuning, de‑essing, compression

• Optimising acoustic takes (phase, mic choice, double‑tracking)

• Mix improvements: EQ strategies, busses/sends, referencing

Advanced — Finish with confidence

• Consistent mix workflow that translates

• Advanced vocal chains, parallel/serial processing, automation

• Arrangement & sound‑design choices for impact with minimal gear

• Mix‑bus strategy, loudness/exports, delivering stems and alt versions

What participants typically need

• Computer and headphones (studio monitors optional)

• Logic or GarageBand DAW (guidance provided throughout)

• A microphone and audio interface are helpful, but beginners can start with existing gear
