THE MOON SHOULD BE MINE by David Mentzer

Lyrics

Verse 1 The birds grow still for the start of you and me,
Summer’s overhead, no shade to be seen,
Your hands in my hair, your lap is my pillow
And when I look up the sun is your halo…

Verse 2 But the sun moves on, changing the land,
A shadow roams over me instead of your hands,
Maybe that scares you, I know it does me–
Now our shadows grow back where light used to be.

CHORUS Leaving you behind I wonder if I’m free
Because heartache still comes before harmony,
So maybe my tears will do some good this time–
For a dollar a teardrop the moon should be mine.

Verse 3 I awake to find doubt still holding sway,
The pain on my pillow is wet for the day,
I suppose that’s why I let you go–
Releasing your love instead of my shadow.

Verse 4 So what can I do but welcome my pain,
I leave my tears alone, just let them rain–
When the water goes still I see a face
And I find the light hidden in grace.

CHORUS Leaving you behind I’m finally free,
Because heartache still comes before harmony,
So maybe my tears did some good this time–
For a dollar a teardrop the moon should be mine.
