The Eagle’s Song by Dorothy Burkhalter

Lyrics

The Eagle’s Song

There is an Eagle at my door,
It seems he has something to say
He has been here once before,
But the skies weren’t quite so gray

This world is quickly changing,
You’ve all gone way too far,
There is fear of condemnation,
Take a look at where you are.

I hate to start this with a fight, but
I think that you are wrong,
I’m right! No! I’m right!
You’re wrong! No! You’re wrong!
Where has listening gone?

Some outside force was watching
And saw this weakness rise.
All good intentions crushed
By this “Savior” in disguise

How did you let this happen?
The beauty of your country,
your freedoms – all betrayed!
Yes, you are in trouble, consequences
of your actions soon must all be paid

I told you in the beginning,
I’m not the one who’s wrong,
I’m right! No! I’m right!
You’re wrong! No! You’re wrong!
Where has listening gone?

If you would only listen
And try to understand
Maybe somewhere in between
Is where you all should stand

Why were we all so foolish?
There’s nothing here to gain.
Money, greed and politics only lead to pain.
Does the Eagle have the answer?
He’s waiting at the door, we have shamed
his reputation, this is not what he stands for!

Truth to power and Integrity is
how my story’s told,
Let the old collapse and fight together,
new strength for all – behold

If we heard your wish correctly
Peace may come at last
The days of our division
may soon be in our past

I’d be proud to fly your skies
if you take this final fight
Love and shared commitment
lets everyone be right!

The Eagle has decreed it,
No more chaos, no more lies!
America the beautiful
Is where our Eagle flies!

Bio

To the Judges, a little about the inspiration for this entry.

I am happy to be able to speak to this international stage and let you hear what most common Americans have to say. I’m sure you’ve heard we have some troubles over here, just when we think it couldn’t get much worse another wound appears. Our country, once so honored, I can’t imagine what you think, it’s really so upsetting, it’s driving us to drink! There is nothing worse than judgement’s scorn from those you do respect, even if all us citizens would apologize, there’s too much wrong to correct. I myself am sorry, it makes me very sad, it has shaken hope for a lot of us but not taken all we had! Our pride and faith will rise again; of this I can be certain. For the people, by the people will indeed prevail, when evil and all his chaos takes its final curtain!

PS: This Eagle really did land on the frozen lake outside my window, just a few days ago. How can I not be inspired by that?!! (Picture would not attach, but you can imagine. . .)
