That summer dress you wore stays on my mind
I think about you in it from time to time
your auburn ponytail pulled back, so I could see those brown eyes shine
that night I swore someday I’d make you mine
Then came that hot June day and there you were in white
the promises we shared were oh so right
we jumped headlong to tomorrow kids holdin hands without a clue
but I knew one thing and that was I loved you
then the tears and years came fast we held on tight
somedays we lost some ground but we never lost the fight
my heads so full of memories, freeze frames of you and the family we raised (God be praised)
and now we stand again just like back then
just you and me and a new road to begin
I might not run as fast as I used to do, but I’ll keep holdin on to you
and if I could I wouldnt change a thing I guess
and the fire I feel for you just wont rest
and when this broken world seems like an aweful mess
I just close my eyes and see you in that dress
