Lyrics
Dance, Dance!
Dear heart, I remember well
The night by the river with the Carnival crowd
We were raising hell
Sweetheart, the memory’s so clear
When the hands started clapping and the feet started tapping
As the band played a ‘reel’
And as the bodies swayed, through the heat and haze
My eyes strayed, till they found your gaze
From then I never looked at anybody else
I always looked your way
There were stars in your eyes, sending rockets to my heart
From then I never looked at anybody else
I always looked your way
And the voices rose high, to the midnight sky
Can you hear them cry?
Dance dance, dance dance, till the sun shines (chorus)
Dance dance, dance dance, till the sun shines (chorus)
(Bridge)
Dear heart, I wish we were there
With the sweet smell of earth as we lay in the field
In the cool night air
Sweetheart, it’s where we both declared
That our love would last forever, like the songs of the river
And the moon overhead
And as our bodies swayed, through the heat and haze
My eyes strayed, till they found your gaze
From then I never looked at anybody else
I always looked your way
There were stars in your eyes, sending rockets to my heart
From then I never looked at anybody else
I always looked your way
And the voices rose high, to the midnight sky
Can you hear them cry?
Dance dance, dance dance, till the sunrise (chorus)
Dance dance, dance dance, till the sunrise (chorus)
Never With Another
Well I miss that darling little angel and the special bond we shared Over glens and hills, in parks and fields or just hanging round the garden shed How you loved that downtown centre where you smiled and licked those hands, of people around that patted you down as they told their doggy tales
I suppose one day I’ll find a way to pick up my life again I’ll find the time for moving on, I don’t know how or when But never with another friend, never such another friend (chorus) Never with another, never such another friend (chorus)
I can’t take your lead from the drawer or handle your winter coat Those memories of big brown eyes asking me to go for a walk I can’t sit where you lay on the sofa and I’d kiss and stroke your head And all those mornings I‘d wake upset ‘cause you’d taken over half the bed!
I suppose one day I’ll find a way to pick up my life again I’ll find the time for moving on, I don’t know how or when
But never with another friend, never such another friend (chorus) Never with another, never such another friend (chorus)
(Bridge/Solo)
Well I miss that friendly little fella and the special bond we shared On sandy shores, streets at dawn, the evening paths we’d tread I’d love to take your lead from the drawer, put on your winter coat Hear those sighs see those big brown eyes as I take you for one last walk
For on that day God finds a way for the grieving all to end I’ll take that path and find you there waiting round that final bend
But never with another friend, never such another friend (chorus) Never with another, never such another friend (chorus)
Never with another, never such another … friend
For Nothing
We walked through the town, looking strong but lonely
For the taste of war had left us lost with only
The images of battlefields
Where those who’d loved had died or killed
For Nothing
We searched out a bar and took to drinking solidly
The band started playing and the girls to dancing slowly
Forgetting where we were or why
For tomorrow we could surely die
For Nothing
Yes, we held those girls
And sang of home and mother
To those on either side
With love for one another
And we swore one day if we got our way
‘Never again, never again’
The night rolled on, the crowd it started warming
To our smiles and songs, not haunted by the dawns
In which the battle roar and cries
Would turn our souls as cold as ice
For Nothing
We may be enemies, Brothers disunited
But let’s choose to agree and open up our hearts
As the way of peace has always been
So never ever let it seem
For Nothing
And we’ll hold each other tight
And sing of home and mother
To those on either side
With love for one another
Then we’ll swear one day if we get our way
‘Never again, never again’
Yes, we’ll swear one day if we get our way
‘Never again, never again’ … (again and again)

Bio
I see myself as a ‘wordsmith’/songwriter. I love composing – preferably for other artists if the opportunity arose – though I take as much time over a song sometimes as a sculptor!
The idea of having three entries in the Lyrics section and having one entry in the Song section this time around is a challenge within a challenge! However, I am confident in my lyric writing.
I have been a finalist in quite a few worldwide songwriting competitions, and this year made the finals of the UK Songwriting competition in a category, and also earned a top 30 place in the TisT Annual songwriting competition for 2022. I haven’t performed for a long time, but would do so if I found a compatible partner
