COLOURS by Colin Archibald

Lyrics

When the daylight melts away

And dusk begins to fall,

City lights in red and white

Form streamers in a wall.

Some flashing blue on painted white

Goes through the green at speed,

And traffic under neon orange

Divides for wailing plead.

Two sandwiched cars under the stones

Strange voices bit the dust,

A towering shell of thick black smoke

As flames lick up the rust.

Oil of orange and red and black

Flows through the smashed in door,

Some breathing masks search frantically

Four warehouse guards on floor.

The black black night turns into morning

Asbestos white turns brown,

The crumpled cars are towed away

As dawn creeps over town.

Embers glow and smoke still shows

There’s life in death together,

Two teenage youths return to see

A view that haunts forever.
