The Cost
What’s the fee – it’s not free ? – how much will the cost be ?
Tit for tat – tip your hat – take your shirt off your back;
And the cost – what’s been lost- that you threw out and tossed
Claim a prize – close your eyes – there’s been no compromise
And your love- costs too much – how much more can I give?
I’d have died – many times – and I have truly tried
What I trade – what we’ve made – causes my soul to fade –
Like an ache – I can’t shake – or a smile I can’t fake –
How much will this love cost?
How much more must I pay
How much will this love cost?
I will pay and I’ll pay
consequence or karma
For some time in the past-
When I was unfeeling
Or I acted too fast,
Whatever my vices.
I’m paying great prices
What’s the damage, you say
How much more, everyday
In the end – I will bend – and try hard to pretend
That the rate – and my fate – aren’t too much and too late
Could it be – I can’t see – the forest for the trees?
Pay the toll – heads will roll – claim my heart and my soul;
Nothing left – now bereft – love is blind, ego deaf;
I’ll be poor- rich no more – weary, dull and a bore
I can choose – not to lose – don’t burn out like a fuse;
I will blaze – day by day – find my way –
Be amazed

Comments:
I liked the story, I think a lot of people will connect with that.
When using short lines with a rhyme at the end of each “trade made fade” make sure that’s really what you want to say, don’t just use those words because they rhyme.
