MAKE IT THROUGH
Lyrics by Zee Dewmyn from Maveety One

1
Hey there kid, life’s been tough on you,
Walking shattered glass, dark avenues,
Not ever knowing where to call home,
Stranded on a road, broken telephone,
But you know, one plus one is two,
Your fate is clear, you’ll make it through,
No more walking on shards of the past,
Give it one more chance and make it last

CHORUS
Kid you’re gonna fly, your gonna find a way,
You’re gonna smile on a summer’s day,
The sun will shine, spark a fiery trail,
You’re gonna be there on a mission, set sail

2
You went looking for a forward pass,
Quarterback faked right, fell on his back,
So you’re alone, running with the ball,
They’re clawing at you hard, climbing up the walls,
But you make it through the killer line,
You stand there, thank God, that you made it this time,
Don’t shake your head, not a second thought,
Your path is certain, finally what you sought

CHORUS
Kid you’re gonna fly, your gonna find a way,
You’re gonna smile on a summer’s day,
The sun will shine, spark your fiery trail,
Make you love, on a mission to tell

3
A painted world full of frozen picks,
Lies, deceit, treachery and hidden tricks,
You see right through the TV lies,
Shows you how to live, someone else’s life,
Don’t walk through, the glitter door,
Know that pill won’t solve no more,
Remember that through all the mirrors and smoke,
You’re loved to the end, to the final note

Kid you’re gonna fly, your gonna find a way,
You’re gonna smile on a summer’s day,
The sun will shine, spark your fiery trail,
Make you love, on a mission to tell

Bio

The lyrics to this song “MAKE IT THROUGH” relate to the lives of my students over the last 28 years (that’s how long I’ve been teaching). My song is a reflection of their lives and a celebration of their perseverance and accomplishments in life. There have been many lives that have touched me with their struggles and challenges of growing up in an uncertain world. Many of the students I’ve had the privilege to teach have struggled with family issues, violence, substance abuse and many other things. I have always done my best to help all of these kids do the best that they could to deal with the difficulties in their lives. Many of the students that I recount in my lyrics refer to my experiences with foster children who have all too often come to my classroom suffering great trauma. Thankfully, many have come back years later and landed on their feet with a good education and found their place in society. This song is a tribute to them. Even though I have written and recorded music to these lyrics, I would love to have a professional bring these meaningful memories to life in a song.

I have only recently decided to record and upload a few of my own songs to the net, including 3 songs for this competition.

I’m a math and science teacher who’s played the guitar for fun for the last 40 years. I only perform my songs for my students in a guitar club that I run twice a week after school. I’ve been encouraging students to write and present their own music in those sessions since covid.

My artist name is “Maveety One”, named after my childhood street in Canada.

I am very thankful for the opportunity to present some of my songs and lyrics in this competition.
Thank you all!

Best Regards,

Zee D.
