2025 Competition Lyrics Entry:

Is Anybody Listening? by Susan Rose Simms

Lyrics

IS ANYBODY LISTENING?©
By, Susan Rose Simms

VERSE
He opens up the paper
To see what it has to say-
“Hundreds of people
Were killed just yesterday,”
In a war, a terrorist bombing,
Or another hijacked plane;
We’re all affected even if
It’s half a world away

CHORUS
Hey out there, is anybody listening?
It’s a real short trip to the grave from the christening.
Think ‘bout all you got,
Don’t dwell on what you’re missing.
Hey out there…….. is anybody listening?

VERSE
She doesn’t need to look much further
Than her neighborhood,
People there just ain’t acting
Like she knows they should.
They’re fighting, stealing, dealing….
Claiming they’re misunderstood.
She wants to scream out loud
If it would do any good……

CHORUS
Hey out there, is anybody listening?
It’s a real short trip to the grave from the christening.
Think ‘bout what you got,
Don’t dwell on what you’re missing.
Hey out there…….. is anybody listening?

BRIDGE
Why does it have to cost a life, just to understand,
We’re here to love our neighbors, so take them by the hand…..

MODULATED CHORUS
Hey out there everyone, start listening!
It’s too short a trip to the grave from the christening.
Think about all the things you got,
Not on what you’re missing.
Hey out there…….. is anybody listening?
