Lyrics
[Verse]
Inside Voices whispers, on tiptoes
Gilmore giggles, shared secrets of the boy next door
I didn’t know better but needed so much more
I wouldn’t hear them, I was young, I was pure
[Chorus]
Blossom scents on virgin wings
Can’t hold back the raging spring
I should’ve known better
Those Inside Voices shoulda been clearer
[Verse]
In the summer steam, the stars aligned
Held hands, desperate crushing kisses, his lips, mine
Never know what’s in store with that boy next door
Inside Voices couldn’t hold me I wanted more
[Chorus]
Windswept hair, flawless skin
Couldn’t sway him, couldn’t rein him.
Should I’ve known better
Inside Voices were never clearer
[Bridge]
Black, blue and every other shade
I should have mattered, but even rainbows fade
Black and blue, other colors too
Broken skin, come unglued
[Instrumental Solo]
[Verse]
His Inside Voice, shakes me, breaks me, Now unmakes me
Can’t bear secrets of the boy next door
Why I went back for more,
forever unsure
Should’ve known better, I was young,
I was pure
[Chorus]
Could never resist him
Guilt and fear wore me thin
Didn’t know better,
Should have known better
Could have known better
[Refrain]
Wish I was young,
still wish I was pure
Wish I was shown better,
wish I had the cure
Their Inside Voices could have been clearer
The Girl I was, I can barely hear her
Took her young. Took her pure
Against his spell, she had no cure
(Never crystal choices. Never heard those Inside Voices
Never crystal choices. Never heard those Inside Voices
ah huh)
[Chorus]
Never crystal choices. Never heard those Inside Voices
Never crystal choices. Never heard those Inside Voices
Never crystal choices. Never heard those Inside Voices
Never crystal choices. Never heard those Inside Voices

Comments:
Such a beautiful and sad story. The first chorus is my favourite part, I’d have liked to have had that repeat again later. The black and blue lyric was heartbreaking but told the story so well.
