2025 Competition Lyrics Entry:

Good Times by Rick Poplawski

Lyrics

I thought I needed silence
But it seems like I was wrong
Instead one day I just sat down
And wrote myself this song

Should it be about my life again
From when I was still young
Or, could it be more truthful
About everything Iv’e done

I just wanted a good time
Was that too much to ask
What’s wrong with a good time
And why should that not last

There was good and bad, good mostly
That’s what I like to remember
But then there were those selfish times
Like late in that December

It was him or her
My head just kept on spinning
Was this the start, or the end
Of a new beginning

Did I choose right
Or, did I choose wrong
Torn between vices
That helped me move along

I just wanted a good time
Was that too much to ask
What’s wrong with a good time
And why should that not last

Thinking only of me
Is what I do best
Releasing a dead weight
That always lyes on my chest

Finding a way out
For what I have done
Passing my faults on
That’s what I’ve become

And then there were children
My life so full of children
Used like the rest
To suit me for the best

I just wanted a good time
Was that too much to ask
What’s wrong with a good time
And why should that not last

It’s the way that I live still
But this feeling’s not so great
I can see where I go wrong
But I’m leaving it all too late

And so I’m here as I started
Still sitting alone
Wasting all of my chances
Where have those good times flown

And so I’m here as I started
I’m still sitting alone
Wasting all of my chances
Where have those good times flown

I just wanted a good time
Was that too much to ask
What’s wrong with a good time
The good times never last

The good times never last

The good times never last

Those good times they don’t last
