When the Winter Winds Blow

by Suzanne Harper

When the breath of the Great Bear

Blows frost through the trees,

Deep down in their roots,

With the slumbering seeds,

Curled up against cold,

The small creatures go,

For we all will need shelter

When the winter winds blow.

High in the branches,

That stretch to the sky

Frozen stars sparkle

And moon owls cry

Weary wings folded,

The huddled birds know

We all will need shelter

When the winter winds blow.

When the winter winds blow

When the winter blows.

Weary wings folded,

The huddled birds know

We all need a shelter

When the winter winds blow.

When the world turns a shoulder

That chills to the bone

In doorways, on pavements,

Naked hearts find their home.

We are the warmth

Their souls seek to know.

For we all will need shelter

When the winter winds blow.

When the winter winds blow,

When the winter winds blow.

We are the warmth

Their souls seek to know

For we all will need shelter

When the winter winds blow.
