Lyrics
We’re sippin’ whisky, shootin’ pool
like we were when skippin’ school
with tender heart I reminisce,
catch your eye n chance a kiss.
You’re centre stage in ev’ry scene
‘till pages turn and burn my dream
You lie, I cry, been here before
I’m heart on sleeve, you’re out the door
You’re keepin’ closed your cold cold heart
usin’ just its lustful part
bruisin’, tearin’ us apart
you’re chewin’ up my tender heart
still chewing up my tender heart
Life moves forward, long n straight
repeating stuff ain’t never great
you’re never virtue, only vice
I pack my bags, like you did, twice.
Our home for nine years sells in weeks
my half’s moonshine, yours boutiques
I’m out there most days workin’ late
East-West highways, haulin’ freight
You’re keepin’ closed your cold cold heart
usin’ just its lustful part
bruisin’, tearin’ us apart
you’re chewin’ up my tender heart
still chewin’ up my tender heart
Tender heart, my smile mislaid
I’ll hit restart when mem’ries fade
For now its whisky, bar and pool
I’m skipping love like we skipped school.
You can sleep with cold cold hearts
I’m happy, lonesome, early starts,
I’ve got the road n country charts,
my trailers called ‘The Tender Heart’
You’re keepin’ closed your cold cold heart
usin’ just its lustful part
bruisin’, tearin’ us apart
you’re chewin’ up my tender heart
chorus to fade
like we were when skippin’ school
with tender heart I reminisce,
catch your eye n chance a kiss.

Comments:
A sad story beautifully told, and something so many people can relate to.
The use of skipping school at the start then skipping love later on is really clever.
