Lyrics
Fifteen Years
I’m thinking ‘bout you.
Are you thinking ‘bout me?
All the things we’ll do
When I get set free.
‘Cos 15 years
Is a mighty long time
For an innocent man
Who committed no crime.
But he was bad
Through and through
Spent his time
Making you blue
Yes, he was bad
Through and through
Spent his days hurting you.
So I knocked on your door
One cold night
I wanted to talk
He wanted to fight.
Hey we rolled on the floor
He pulled out a knife
I was an inch away
From losing my life.
Then a shot rang out
From the gun in her hand
And a bad man’s soul
Crossed the Rio Grande.
Well self-defence
Don’t ever stack
When a man’s got a hole
In the middle of his back
But she had a son
And a daughter to raise
And I had hope
To get me through the days.
Now every night
I howl at the moon
Hoping my true love
Will visit me soon
Every day I’m on bended knee
Hoping that soon she’ll come and see me.
I’m thinking ‘about you
Are you thinking about me?
All the things we’ll do
When I get set free
‘Cos 15 years
Is a mighty long time
For an innocent man
Who committed no crime.
Then one day she finally came
And my tear drops
Fell like rain
She said I’ve come here
To cause you pain
‘Cos I cannot live
In lies and shame.
She said there’s something
You have to understand
That night at the house
I shot the wrong man.
You see my Tommy
Wasn’t bad
Through and through.
So don’t be thinking about me.
I won’t be thinking about you.

Comments:
What a story! I felt like I’d watched a movie reading that lyric and am totally invested in that poor man spending 15 years in prison.
Some of the rhymes feel a little forced “bended knee” and “come and see me.” Try using imperfect or near rhymes to make the sentence feel more original and unexpected.
