Lyrics
Guess summertime is over
‘Cause it sure ain’t been easy.
There’s no revolution online
Never mind the TV.
Our story just repeating
Intolerance holding sway
Wasn’t a change gonna come?
I heard some people say.
Did Bob tell us lies
‘Bout every little thing?
We’re backed into a corner
On the ropes inside the ring.
Some sleep just fine as beds are burning, games of blame again returning
Promises of peace, these I’m yearning, lessons from aggression, we’re not learning.
For what it’s worth, thought we were past all this.
Aretha where’s the respect?
Neil ain’t getting any younger
Could John have imagined
Such gaps of wealth and hunger?
A country’s not a business
For a hostile takeover
People aren’t just capital
To burn and then rake over.
Some sleep just fine as beds are burning, games of blame again returning
Promises of peace, these I’m yearning, lessons from aggression, we’re not learning.
For what it’s worth, thought we were past all this.
Begging from the billionaires
To reach a minimum wage.
Inequality still the policy
Of machines against to rage.
What’s going on here Marvin?
It’s all spoilt, turning sour
Where are all our poets
To help us fight the power?
Some sleep just fine as beds are burning, games of blame again returning
Promises of peace, these I’m yearning, lessons from aggression, we’re not learning.
For what it’s worth, thought we were past all this.
Breaking news or faking news
Justify our raising walls.
Boardrooms & on sports fields
Rich playing with their balls.
What’s blowing in the wind
I don’t care to breathe.
This Mother’s all we’ve got
Can’t just pack on up & leave.
Some sleep just fine as beds are burning, games of blame again returning
Promises of peace, these I’m yearning, lessons from aggression, we’re not learning.

Bio
My parents bought me a guitar when I was about 13 in the hope that it would help to keep me out of mischief. I had some lessons, but mainly self-taught playing along to my records at home.
I’ve always struggled with confidence, self-esteem and never worked up the courage to join a band or play in front of people. The guitar seemed to feel most comfortable with just me.
In my late teens, early twenties, I was earning enough money to start buying some home recording equipment and some more basic instruments and effects pedals. I’ve always enjoyed writing stories, poems and lyrics and I now started to combine music and words and record them at home. Again, although I immensely enjoyed the creative process, I didn’t make much effort in getting it heard. I submitted some songs to a website called “GarageBand” (which was an early champion of unsigned artists on the early internet) and even sent a demo tape in to the legendary radio/music god, John Peel.
Over the next 30 odd years (I’m now 54), I have had an on/off relationship with creating and playing music while life and family bloomed and blossomed. I sold all my music gear when I moved to New Zealand and went back to the simplicity of an acoustic guitar only for many years.
Both my children are musically minded and have way more talent than I ever had. They have inspired me to once again dive back into the joys of creating music, start learning drums (thoroughly recommend it to all over 50s as a great physical and mental workout!), and to have the courage to put my creations out into the universe.
My ultimate dream would be to write and record with my children and support them on their musical journeys.

Comments:
Such a sad song of the nature of society and how things never really change.
I think the only thing to add may be something that ties a real story into the song rather than a list of things that need to change.
Putting a real family in the song and their feelings about what’s happening in the world can frame it in a way that connects emotionally to the listener.
