Lyrics
This is a story about a long lost love
In a time of castles when romances made of
Fair ladies and princes, dukes and duchess’
Before the Evil Knight swept her into his clutches
Three score and seven riding on horseback
A fierce armored army ready for attack
From the woods in a thunderous roar they came
With the ugly Evil Knight howling out her name
It was dawn and the mist was nestled in
As I wielded my sword against the King’s men
In two’s they came, in five’s, then eight’s
I came close to my maker but I did not meet my fate
Elouise stood true by my side
Like Arthur’s Excalibur with magic and pride
But when I fell she shouted in alarm
Then the ugly Evil Knight snatched her into his arms
{chorus}
He said:
Elouise you belong to the King to please
Oh Elouise, I’m taking you back to the castle with me
Hours later I awoke and cleansed my wounds by the brookside
Fearing the worst for my new bride
Peering across the trampled green garden above
Rose smoldering ashes of our cottage of love
Michael soon arrived from the east
Drawn by the smoke and the King’s deceased
Blood brothers through the wars of long ago past
This Leader of the Rebels’ friendship would always last
Long before the Rebels told me of their cause
To oust this ‘King of Lies’ and unjust laws
I formed a plan to quell his rule
Pitting myself and his Knight in a deadly duel
So the time had come to gather our forces
Twenty brave men on strong harnessed horses
I vowed on the approaching night to Elouise
When the moon culminates our people will be set free
{chorus}
The King said:
Elouise you belong to me to please
Oh Elouise you’re the fairest maiden our world has ever seen
“Oh Elouise,” the King chanted endlessly
Oh Elouise, I swear by the blade of my sword I’ll soon save thee
On this quiet night Michael’s men scaled the castle walls
Taking out guards in the narrow stone halls
Through a passage Michael and I entered underground
We planned to remove the King without a sound
We won several battles in this dark damp palace
Searching for the chamber of the King of malice
Soon Michael had captured the King with ease
As the ugly Evil Knight guarded Elouise
{chorus}
He said:
Elouise you belong to me to please
Oh Elouise you’re the fairest maiden our world has ever seen
{bridge}
You see, the Evil Knight as we soon thereafter found
Hurled the ultimate power with limitless bound
From the shadows he controlled the King of puppets
Now the story continues followed by a fanfare of trumpets
The Evil Knight was by the window as I charged in
When Elouise pushed him out to his deadly end
Then to all of our shocking surprise
The exulted King’s Army cheered for the King’s demise
{chorus}
They shouted:
Elouise you’ve destroyed the ruthless King
“Oh Elouise,” they cheered and declared Michael our new King
“Oh Elouise,” they chanted endlessly
Oh Elouise you’re the fairest maiden our world has ever seen
And we lived happily thereafter in endless peace…

Bio
I self-taught myself to play the guitar in college, taking after my housemate Bix Weir who would perform his original music at a local pub. We were influenced by Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Bruce Springsteen, U2, and other rock-folk musicians. I wrote my first song then and hadn’t stopped until I got married in 2004 and started a family.
I had performed at a local café in the 90’s and headlined for a couple years at Earth Day in Newport Beach. These days I occasionally play for family and friends and look forward to hosting regular guitar parties like I did in the old days 🙂

Comments:
The storytelling was excellent, like an epic poem!
It would be nice for there to be more “show don’t tell” in the story, so we can imagine the scene for ourselves.
