Lyrics
When the Butterflies Go
By Christine Haas
Chorus:
Can you tell me what stays, when the butterflies go?
Will you still be there, will your love still grow?
It may not matter now, but you really oughta know,
What stays behind when the butterflies go.
Verse 1
Sprinting from the start is just what y’all do.
Thinking with your hearts when you’re sayin’ I do.
Take a moment now, before y’all go on.
Marriage ain’t a trip, it’s a life marathon.
Growing up as one, ain’t nothing short of tough.
You’ve gotta hang tight, when things are getting rough.
Who cares who was right, or who’s got it all wrong.
When your partner feels weak, you’ve gotta stay strong.
Repeat Chorus
Verse 2
Let me tell you this, you’ll struggle and you’ll fight.
Then you’ll work it all out and you’ll make it alright.
The years will pass quick and then you will begin,
To see that youth fades and wrinkles settle in.
The one that you’re with may they see who you are.
One day late at night, while driving in the car,
You’re lookin’ at them, they’re lookin’ back at you.
You may have both changed, but your friendship stayed true.
Repeat Chorus
Outro:
So when it’s all done, you know what’s gonna stay.
The memories you make, the things that you say.
Like flowers in spring may your love always grow,
And that is what stays when the butterflies go.

Bio
One thing Christine Haas will not claim to be is a singer or a musician, but she is a writer through and through. Christine has been an elementary school teacher for over 27 years. She has customized lyrics to familiar tunes to help teach different content areas to her students. She has written parodies for her fellow colleagues who are going to retire. She has made personalized invitations and poems for her friends and loved ones. Then, one day, after a close friend lost a loved one during the pandemic, Christine began to write song lyrics. She wrote a song called Heaven is Forever as a tribute to her friend’s brother but had no way of putting it to music. After researching and asking around, she finally found a colleague who was able to put her words to music. It truly was a magical experience for her. Although the experience was levitating, it was short lived. Her acquaintance was not someone who regularly wrote songs. So she continues to write in hopes that one day someone will help to breathe life into her lyrics. In the meantime, Christine continues to work on her craft of writing, raising her two children and trying a late in life hobby, playing the ukulele.

Comments:
Lovely title and idea for the song. Using near rhymes would give you more options for the ends of your lines.
