2025 Competition Lyrics Entry:

All The Doors Are Open by Kevin Cochran

Lyrics

Looking to the east
Looking to the west
Looking to the blue sky for a lover
Who’ll tell her she’s the best

And hold her hand on a cloudy day
Walk with her in the snow
Who’ll overhear people say
How they love each other so

{chorus}
La, la, la, la, la!
La, la, la, la, la!
La, la, la – la – la, la, la
La, la – la, la – la, la – la, la – la
Oh yeah
All the doors are open
They’re open

In the deep blue sea
In the sky
All the doors are open
For the wind and the song
And you belong
To the child of your devotion

Like the whale
And the dolphin
The lion and the fox
The thoroughbred has left the gates
He’s out of the blocks… so

Open your arms and touch the sky
Learn how to swim with the stars
Open your heart and come with me
It’s not very far, and sing
And sing
And sing!

{chorus}

{bridge}

Will she find him?
She will
Will she love him?
She will

And with all the world
He will love her

Looking to the east
Looking to the west
Looking to the dolphins and the whales
To point her to the right way to go
Oh yeah
All the doors are open
They’re open!

{chorus}

Bio

I self-taught myself to play the guitar in college, taking after my housemate Bix Weir who would perform his original music at a local pub. We were influenced by Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Bruce Springsteen, U2, and other rock-folk musicians. I wrote my first song then and hadn’t stopped until I got married in 2004 and started a family.

I had performed at a local café in the 90’s and headlined for a couple years at Earth Day in Newport Beach. These days I occasionally play for family and friends and look forward to hosting regular guitar parties like I did in the old days 🙂
