2025 Competition Lyrics Entry:

That’s My Boy by Barry Crannell

Lyrics

That’s My Boy © 2009 Barry Crannell

A rough and tumble five year old
With pint-sized dreams in his head
Full of beans and mac and cheese
Asleep in his race car bed
Nothing gets sweeter than that
He’s the feather in my cap

That’s my boy
Lyin’ there just like an angel
That’s my boy
The one I have prayed for
All I ever wanted
He’s my pride and joy
Lyin’ there before me
That’s my boy

A third grade slugger in the Little League
I can’t believe how he’s grown
Always showing up in a cloud of dust
Sliding on his back towards home
Now he’s only half my size
But he’s a giant in my eyes

That’s my boy
Lyin’ there just like an angel
That’s my boy
The one I have prayed for
All I ever wanted
He’s my pride and joy
Lyin’ there before me
That’s my boy

I dreaded the news when I answered the door
And the Captain asked for me by name
That son of mine was just 21
He came home today on a plane
My proud heart was breaking in two
When they handed me that folded up red, white, and blue

‘Cause that’s my boy
Lyin’ there just like an angel
That’s my boy
The one I have prayed for
That’s my boy
That’s my boy

  1. I’m pretty overwhelmed by the response to my lyrics only submission. I worked this one a long time to get what I wanted out of it. Thanks for your generous review! 99/100? I can certainly live with that…
