A Beautiful Day
1
It was such a beautiful day,
A day we just couldn’t waste,
We took to the path we knew so well,
It was such a beautiful day,
It was such a beautiful day,
A day for leisure, not haste,
We took to the hills we knew so well,
It was such a beautiful day.
The breeze was soft and cool,
It played your hair in wistful strands,
We did not speak, we just smiled,
And you gently took, and squeezed my hand.
It was such a beautiful day,
A day we just couldn’t waste,
We took to the path we knew so well,
It was such a beautiful day,
It was such a beautiful day,
A day for leisure, not haste,
We took to the hills we knew so well,
It was such a beautiful day.
2
The light of the day,
Shines down on the land.
With the sun in our eyes,
We walk hand in hand.
The birds in the trees,
Their beautiful songs,
Ring loud in our ears,
As we stroll along.
The smell of cut grass,
So fresh and so sweet,
We look to the sky,
And breath it in deep.
It’s a beautiful day,
It’s a beautiful way to spend the time,
It’s a beautiful day,
It’s a beautiful day.

Across the valley, the patchwork fields,
Are quilted in all shades of green,
The river tumbles down from the hills,
Such a wonderful sight to be seen.
The sheep are grazing up on the hills,
The cattle asleep in the fields,
The farmer whistles, his faithful friend,
Comes running and drops at his heels.
We’re high on a hill watching shadows slide by,
So we lie on our backs in the grass,
And watch as the clouds slowly, gracefully glide
Across the blue sky, and I ask….
Isn’t this just the most beautiful day,
Isn’t this just the most beautiful way,
To spend time together,
What more can I say,
Isn’t this the most beautiful day?
4
It’s time to move on, we climb over a stile,
The nettle it brushes your arm,
You squeal as it stings, it hurts for a while,
But you laugh…….
Nothing can spoil such a beautiful day,
Nothing, no nothing at all,
Nothing can beat such a beautiful day
Nothing, no nothing at all………
Down in the village the water wheel turns
As the lazy river flows by.
I take your picture, a butterfly lands
On your hand…..
Nothing can spoil such a beautiful day,
Nothing, no nothing at all,
Nothing can beat such a beautiful day
Nothing, no nothing at all………

As the light starts to fade, it’s time to go home,
It’s the end of a beautiful day,
We take to the path we knew so well,
It’s the end of a beautiful day.
Hasn’t this been the most beautiful day,
It’s been such a beautiful day,
Hasn’t this been the most beautiful day,
It’s been such a beautiful day.
It was such a beautiful day,
A day we just couldn’t waste,
We took to the path we knew so well,
It was such a beautiful day,

Bio
Since retiring, music and art have become my way of life. After more than 50 years of songwriting and recording I have amassed a huge collection of recordings, and since retiring have created a small number of paintings. I have recently enhanced my recording and mixing skills so that many of those old recordings, originally produced on old analogue gear, can now have a new lease of life, and many of the musicians involved in them then, are bringing some new music to life now.

Comments:
You painted the scene so beautifully I felt I was actually there.
I thought there might be a twist later in the story, perhaps they’re on that walk to scatter ashes, break up etc. It was all so happy and beautiful it felt the lyric needed to go somewhere else.
