Two Hundred Kisses by David Perry

Lyrics
When he was only five she had to go away
For service in a far off land
Her heart was breaking but she knew she couldn’t stay
To help a young boy understand
Two hundred candy kisses she placed in a jar
One kiss each day while he’s alone
With ever kiss he took she wouldn’t seem so far
And she’d be one kiss closer home
(Chorus)
Two hundred kisses ‘till I see you
Two hundred kisses ‘till I hold you once again
Two hundred kisses ‘till I see you
Two hundred kisses ‘till the kisses never end
One by one the jar began to empty out
Day by day the time grew near
And the last kiss was the sweetest one, no doubt
Just one more day and she’ll be here
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
When you’re a child each day is all you ever know
But memories don’t work that way
All too soon your childhood innocence will go
And you’d give anything to just relive one day
Now the time has come, the young boy’s fully grown
He’ll make his way as young men do, (her turns to her and says)
Take this single kiss till I can make it home
When I return and give to you
Chorus)
Two hundred kisses when I see you
Two hundred kisses when I hold you once again
Two hundred kisses when I see you
Two hundred kisses ‘till the kisses never end,… ‘till the kisses never end
When he was only five she had to go away
For service in a far off land
Her heart was breaking but she knew she couldn’t stay
To help a young boy understand
Two hundred candy kisses she placed in a jar
One kiss each day while he’s alone

Bio
David Perry was born in West Virginia and his roots run deep. His music is a mix of Americana/Country, with a touch of Blues and Rock. After a long career as a music educator, he returned to what drew him to music in the first place – the joy of singing and playing guitar. Grounded in the music of the 60’s he looks at songwriting through a lens of story telling and asking questions. Picking lyrics and melody out of the air and shaping them into songs that will hopefully make you think, question, laugh, cry, move, feel and experience all those things that unite us as humans and make each of us so wonderfully unique.
