2025 Competition Lyrics Entry:

Baby Slips Her High Heels On by Tim Pike

Lyrics

I watch my little girl as she stands in her bedroom
Just staring at her reflection in the oval mirror
Her momma’s hat sittin’ on her head
Her momma’s dress mostly falling down
Tryin’ hard to be a little lady
Then baby slips her high heels on

I watch my little girl as she stands in her bedroom
Just staring at her reflection in the oval mirror
New prom dress hugs her very tight
My little girl’s going out tonight
Tryin’ hard to be a little lady
Then baby slips her high heels on

The years go by as I get old
Baby’s growing up too fast, too bold
She finds a boy to take my place
She tells me to my face
“it’s gonna last forever!”

I watch my little girl as she stands in her bedroom
Just staring at her reflection in the oval mirror
New wedding dress in virgin white
New diamond ring is burning bright
Tryin’ so hard to be a lady
Then baby slips her high heels on

And I can’t help but feel
The best years have come and gone
When I watch as baby slips her high heels on

My little girl’s back home again, in her old room
Just staring at the emptiness in the oval mirror
She paints her face and pulls on tight blue jeans
Goin ‘ out to be somebody’s queen
Wants to be treated like a lady
So baby slips her high heels on

And I can’t help but feel
The best years have come and gone
When I watch as baby slips her high heels on
