2025 Competition Lyrics Entry:

Frightened by Richard Auger

Lyrics

Summers rays came down, dismissed the night, shone a light upon the day
As you lay there still, I’m lost again, not knowing what to say
Took trip a to where it all began, tried to find myself again
Kicking stones in streets I used to walk, but it doesn’t feel the same

If I turn my back, if I walk away, will the love that I once felt come back and stay
If I close my eyes, if I kneel and pray, will He take the things that frighten me away

I sit alone, my head in my hands, on a bench where I carved your name
Under orchard leaves, in dapple light, I get lost in thoughts again
You seem to think that all is well, but I don’t feel that way
In fact, I don’t ‘feel’ much at all, there’s nothing I can say

If I turn my back, if I walk away, will the love that I once felt come back and stay
If I close my eyes, if I kneel and pray, will He take the things that frighten me away

I walk along the streets once more and feel the summer’s rays
Finding peace to heal my soul its clear, to help me on my way
I noticed once as I prayed; I sensed that He was near
My load was gone; he took the weight and began to dry my tears

If I turn my back, if I walk away, will the love that I once felt come back and stay
If I close my eyes, if I kneel and pray, will He take the things that frighten me away
