Lyrics
THE NIGHT I TAUGHT YOU TO WALTZ
Like two leaves falling out of the trees
Whirling in time on a slow autumn breeze
Our eyes were as one and our hearts beat in threes
The night I taught you to waltz, honey
The night I taught you to waltz
Like the swing of the tide to the sea
We were in harmony, shoulder to knee
I was in step with you, you were with me
The night I taught you to waltz, honey
The night I taught you to waltz
There will be times when all of our dreams will fade
Like two flowers caught in the shade
But when the band plays, and all the lights go down
Hold me closer, turn me around
Dancing like butterflies caught in the rain
Under the light of a moon on the wane
I fell in love with you over again
The night I taught you to waltz, honey
The night I taught you to waltz
Like the swing of the tide to the sea
We were in harmony, shoulder to knee
I was in step with you, you were with me
The night I taught you to waltz, honey
The night I taught you to waltz
I taught you to waltz, honey
I taught you to waltz
Like two leaves falling out of the trees
Whirling in time on a slow autumn breeze
Our eyes were as one and our hearts beat in threes
The night I taught you to waltz, honey
The night I taught you to waltz
Like the swing of the tide to the sea
We were in harmony, shoulder to knee
I was in step with you, you were with me
The night I taught you to waltz, honey
The night I taught you to waltz
There will be times when all of our dreams will fade
Like two flowers caught in the shade
But when the band plays, and all the lights go down
Hold me closer, turn me around
Dancing like butterflies caught in the rain
Under the light of a moon on the wane
I fell in love with you over again
The night I taught you to waltz, honey
The night I taught you to waltz
Like the swing of the tide to the sea
We were in harmony, shoulder to knee
I was in step with you, you were with me
The night I taught you to waltz, honey
The night I taught you to waltz
I taught you to waltz, honey
I taught you to waltz

Bio
I’m 70. I was born in Malta but I’m from the East Midlands (Leicester). I live in Devon now. I’ve always been creative, and writing songs, poetry and stories has been a passion all my life. During my forties, I was lucky enough to get a small children’s book published, this led to a career in writing children’s fiction, though I’m retired now. My best known books are a series called ‘The Last Dragon Chronicles’. They got me onto the New York Times bestseller lists at one time. I’ve written many complete songs, as well as standalone lyrics, though it’s always really been a hobby. I’ve had half a dozen songs aired on the East Midlands edition of BBC Introducing. Earlier this month, one of those songs was chosen as a track of the week on BBC Radio Leicester (i.e. they played it all week, in a regular daytime slot). It would be nice to take the music further, which is why I’m entering the competition, I guess.

Some beautiful storytelling moments. Try to use the show don’t tell method so your lyrics have more variety.
