Lyrics
Hold my hand
Just a little bit longer
She’s much smaller
But tonight, she’s stronger than me
Kneeling down beside her in bed
I kiss her sleepy head
Fast asleep
So, I pull up the covers
The more she grows
The more she favors her mother
I pause, turn and slip out the door
Like I’ve done so many nights before
But tonight, I don’t climb into bed
I climb into my car instead
And drive what must be a world away
She’ always asking
“Why can’t you stay?”
She knows Daddy can fix so many things
A little glue, a piece of tape
Or tied with strings
She knows Daddy can fix so many things
Daddy, won’t you please make it better?
In just three weeks we’ll celebrate her fifth birthday
I pick her up from pre-school every Thursday, she smiles
she paints my nails and plays with her dolls,”
The other days I always call
Thinking back to when that balloon I gave her just popped
She went rushing, picking up pieces that dropped
She put them in my hand
So sure, I could make it better again
She cried so hard when I said it couldn’t be repaired
Big explanations won’t fit in her little ears
She came running back with tape in hand
I couldn’t make her understand
‘Cause she knows Daddy can fix so many thing
A little glue, a piece of tape
Or tied with strings
She knows Daddy can fix so many things
Daddy, won’t you please make it better?
Now the weekends are the days we are sharing
She asks why did you and Mom get unmarried
I stop; I think about balloons that burst
And wonder what I say first
Hold my hand just a little bit longer
She’s much smaller
But tonight, she’s stronger than me…….
