2025 Competition Lyrics Entry:

Pictures On The Shelf by Terry Mutter

Lyrics

Verse
Pictures lined upon the shelf
remind me of myself
Pictures lined upon the shelf
of how I came to be

Black & whites of days gone by
make me smile, make me cry
Black & whites of days gone by,
ripples in the pond

Chorus
Everybody stand up straight!
Look over here
Everybody give a smile,
hide those frowns and fears

Red dot eyes, hopes and dreams
Just say “cheese”
Grains of sand added to the pile
Flash……. there goes another year

Verse
Books of photos stacked in rows
Page missing, where did it go?
Books of photos stacked in rows
Treasure chests of time

Faded colors, corners torn
some untouched, others worn
Faded colors, corners torn
from memories passed around

Chorus
Everybody stand up straight!
Look over here
Everybody give a smile,
hide those frowns and fears

Red dot eyes, hopes and dreams
Just say “cheese”
Grains of sand added to the pile
Flash……. there goes another year

Outro
Pictures lined upon the shelf
remind me of myself
Pictures lined upon the shelf
Of how, of how I came to be

Bio

Terry Mutter is a Singer Songwriter deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest near Seattle Washington. Not surprising woods, trees, and rain are fabrics weaved through his music that explore love, loss, and laughter. While being a lifelong musician his writing did not start until the loss of both parents in the span of a year in 2019-2020.

Music is medicine of the soul and the losses unlocked a burst of creativity resulting in his first EP “Walking In The Rain” in 2021 quickly followed by albums “Sentinels” in 2022 and “The Counter” in 2023. He has released 3 singles in 2024 and plays in the Northwest with the occasional treat of being accompanied by his daughter Natalie.
