POEMS IN MY BED by Roberta Smith

Lyrics
Day awakens in the street
Bustle has begun.
Hot rod wheels and clicking feet
Up to beat the sun,
But I’m lazing in my upper room
Lounging in my head,
Weaving on my wordsmith’s loom
Some poems in my bed;
Poems in my bed.
All the world goes busy by
Busy buzzing bees.
They can’t see me here up high
Higher than the trees,
But I’m waltzing up here with the birds
Dancing in my head
Doing a samba with my words
Making a poem with ‘em
Doing a samba with my words
Beating a Latin rhythm.
I’ll let my busy world go by
Do do doing it’s thing thing thing
I’ll let my spirit free and fly
I’ll let my spirit sing.
I’ll let my spirit sing.
Should I go and join the queue?
Should I join the hive?
This above all to thine own self be true;
This above all keep your spirit alive.
So I’ll let the busy world go by,
Click clack clicking it’s slick black heels.
I’ll let my spirit free to fly;
To feel whatever it feels
Whatever it really feels.
‘Cos I’m lazing in my upper room
Lounging in my head,
Weaving on my wordsmith’s loom
Some poems in my bed;
Poems in my bed.
Bustle has begun.
Hot rod wheels and clicking feet
Up to beat the sun,
But I’m lazing in my upper room
Lounging in my head,
Weaving on my wordsmith’s loom
Some poems in my bed;

All the world goes busy by

Bio
Roberta Smith, an original flower child singer-songwriter, released her second single “Shade and Shelter” on January 24th. She started to write songs when she was 15 and rose to almost immediate success at 16, winning a major talent competition and performing in the winners’ concert at Leeds Town Hall. She was quickly taken up by management and she opened for Ralph McTell at Charles Morris Hall, played on Radio Leeds, at Leeds University Union and on the university TV network and on Yorkshire Television.
Her new single “Shade and Shelter” deftly plays on the difficulties encountered in all loving relationships and her new EP: “Airs on a Sixstring” (release date March 28th 2025) deals with climate change, loneliness, humour, and love.
She has performed many times on the UK’s acoustic scene, at one stage even playing Queen Anne Boleyn in a medieval theatre-restaurant in London’s St Martin’s Lane, but all the while, Roberta has been quietly honing her craft to carve out her identity as the accomplished musician we hear today.
“It’s always been a dream to release new music and I’m thrilled to have the chance to do this”, she said.
She has performed live at The Harrison in London and at Ace Space in Newbury, to open for Saskia Griffiths-Moore, at the Bedford, Balham, London as part of a ‘Talent Is Timeless’ showcase, a ground breaking initiative for songwriters over age 50 founded by London based artist Saskia Griffiths-Moore and at the Union Chapel, Cambridge to open for John Jenkins.
