2026 Competition Entry:

Autumn in August by Mac Glashan

Lyrics

There isn’t any living within her loving-
Wind isn’t blowing
Grass needs mowing
And the circus has lost one clown.

Sadness is like a mist
The sun is out of reach
And summer’s broken memories
Lie on a winter beach.

Last year in the spring thought I had everything –
She had long blond hair, wore silver rings.
Long blond hair and silver rings.

But now it is Autumn in August-
And while the seasons may say it is summer
All the leaves are dead.

Yes Autumn in August
And all the leaves are dead.
