CATCHING MY BREATH by David Mentzer

Lyrics

Verse 1 There’s a need the ocean has in rushing back to the shore,
There’s a hunger too when I think of you while I’m
away and want you more…
And so I dream…you’ll kiss me like the sea does the sand,
As you rush up to me with sandy footsteps now,
hushing words I had planned.

Chorus I was once a leaf in love with the ground, far away,
I know I’ll get down there someday when I can fall, all the way,
I’m falling before I realize you’re guiding me down, and then–
I’m here on the ground, catching my breath while you grin, again.

Verse 2 There’s a way you can make me ache with a glance & a grin,
Every time you do…it seems the sky I feel opens up & I fall in–
But when I ask you, “Just hold me,” and you melt my
day away…
I always feel I’m myself again in your arms, unafraid.

Verse 3 Should the sun catch the moon off-guard & grab a kiss
before the dawn,
Or should I wake up and see what I can do to make you smile
instead of yawn,
And so it goes…the shifting light of the sun moves on your skin…
About as slow as I move my lips along…not just where
the sun has been.

Chorus I was once a leaf in love with the ground, far away,
I know I’ll get down there someday when I can fall, all the way,
I’m falling before I realize you’re guiding me down, and then–
I’m here on the ground, catching my breath while you grin, again.
