The Two Of Us
An old song idea that I had, when I had thought that I had to be writing about personal experiences … so had decided to write about a moment in time from my youth, when during an Indian summer at school the two of us would pop out to the local corner shop during lunchtimes to sit on a wall and share a can of Pepsi (other soft drinks are available!!) and a choc ice! At the start of Lockdown in the UK I thought that I would dig it out and finish it off, trying to teach myself music production at that same time … I tried my hand at ‘vocal chops’ as part of the production. Thanks for listening.
Lyrics:
VERSE:
Each day that you walk with me sends,
Shivers down my spine,
And one day you’ll talk with me,
It’ll feel that things have always been that way,
CHORUS:
The two of us survive,
The two of us go walking hand in hand,
The two of us will survive,
The two of us go walking hand in hand,
VERSE:
This drink that you share with me,
Seems, never to run dry,
The way you gave yourself to me,
Now everything can never be the same,
CHORUS:
The two of us survive,
The two of us go walking hand in hand, I’d like to say,
The two of us will survive,
The two of us go walking hand in hand,
BRIDGE:
But when you know that the time is right,
For those pretty days,
You have such pretty ways,
Those pretty days,
CHORUS:
The two of us survive,
The two of us go walking hand in hand, I’d like to say,
The two of us will survive,
The two of us go walking hand in hand,
Each day that you walk with me sends,
Shivers down my spine,
Now you know when you’re in love.
All credit to you for a pretty ambitious production and arrangement. I think it works very well and with the dry vocal it sounded
like a song from a stage musical.
Good vocal chops indeed. Intriguing production.
This is different, really like the song and the voice
I’ve not tried my hand at any sort of production yet but I’m interested in how the technology can add extra textures & colour to music. I had to Google “vocal chops” & I like what you did with them!
Mmm….you certainly got the hang of an ambitous production, well done. I confess I’m still a bit mistified by the vocal chops – and who is the singer? Production skills like this offer great potential but for me in this case the admirable audio wizardry creates emotional distance between me as listener and the song.
Thanks Ron, Graham, Ann, Suzanne and Dave for your kind words.
Like Suzanne, I wasn’t sure what vocal chops were, so also had to google it. The production is very good, but I do wonder (and not a criticism) how would you perform this in a live setting? I do actually like the song though and that’s what it’s all about. 😊
That really works, it got a great pop upbeat feel. fab.
Nice upbeat song.
Nice pop feel to this, enjoyed it.
I don’t know what I think about the “vocal chops,” but really like the tune. I really like the melody and the chorus. It’s a nice recorded sound as well. I think it has some memorable qualities. I’m giving it a vote!
Thank you so much Steve! I’m glad you enjoyed the track and thanks for your positive feedback. Thank you also Huw, Julie, Ervin and Andy for your kind words.
