The Soldier and the Queen

It will become apparent on listening that I’m no historian. Although this song is based around the relationship between Mark Antony and Cleopatra, I have used some modern day items such as electricity and dynamite to try to get an explaination over.

    The Soldier and the Queen

He was a soldier. She was a Queen.
Her beauty entranced him, she was serene.
The spark was electric, no time to lose.
‘Cos he was the dynamite, she lit the fuse.

Left his home and family, sailed to be by her side.
Infatuation had taken hold, wanted her for his bride.
She was a beauty, the one that he’d choose.
‘Cos he was the dynamite, she lit the fuse.

His homeland in battle, he’s called back to shore.
He stayed and got married, he’ll see her no more.

But he couldn’t get her, out of his mind.
And soon he returned there, ‘cos his love was so blind.
But then she betrayed him, left him there to lose.
He was the dynamite, she lit the fuse.

So hurt was the soldier, that one stormy night.
‘Cos he could no longer see her, he took his own life.
She’s taken everything, he had no more to lose.
‘Cos he’d been the dynamite and she lit the fuse.
‘Cos he’d been the dynamite and she lit the fuse.

  2. He was the dynamite and she lit the fuse is a great expression of an “explosive relationship”. I was thinking of Burton & Taylor too as you were singing but the great thing is it could be about any relationship really. Very transferable. Top stuff again and fab to hear it live the other week.

  3. Hi Huw, You must be in a historical frame of mind lately doing Titanic last month and now Anthony and Cleopatra! Strong meloday as ever, though the sound is a little muffled – but that is probably more of a reflection of my PC than your sound, which is always spot on. I can’t help help thinking of ‘Carry on Cleo’ whenever this couple are mentioned, particularly Amanda Barrie! Nice one mate,
