The Killing Of A king

This historical tune has two inspirations. The film Cromwell (Ken Huges,1970) and, stretching ‘book’ to include poetry the great Hull poet Andrew Marvell’s 1650 ‘Horatian Ode upon Cromwell’s Return from Ireland’

  1. It is good to hear you mention Andrew Marvell, a fine poet. Listening to your very English folk song, I imagined Dave Swarbrick singing it with Fairport Convention. A fine folk ballad, telling of an historical event, as the old singers used to do.

  2. H Graham – yeah, a story told well in true folk tradition – as it happens I have just finished reading a book about this so it was a bit of synchronicity! I think you told it better.
