The Killing Of A king
This historical tune has two inspirations. The film Cromwell (Ken Huges,1970) and, stretching ‘book’ to include poetry the great Hull poet Andrew Marvell’s 1650 ‘Horatian Ode upon Cromwell’s Return from Ireland’

Really good Graham. Nicely paced and superbly performed In the folk tradition.
I liked it a lot
😁✌️☮️🌻
Really great storytelling Graham. Lovely guitar and vocal. A very enjoyable listen
It is good to hear you mention Andrew Marvell, a fine poet. Listening to your very English folk song, I imagined Dave Swarbrick singing it with Fairport Convention. A fine folk ballad, telling of an historical event, as the old singers used to do.
A really good Folk style song, with some really nice storytelling. An enjoyable listen, good job!
I was never interesting in history at school but if it was put to song then I would take notice.
Nicely done 👏
Very good story-telling. As others have commented, definitely in the folk mould, with a traditional sounding tune to match. I enjoyed it a lot!
H Graham – yeah, a story told well in true folk tradition – as it happens I have just finished reading a book about this so it was a bit of synchronicity! I think you told it better.
perfectly folk style and a great story.
A dynamic story, well versed and musically crafted. A instant classic with a contemporary feel. Great tune!
It’s good to keep history alive, and a song is the best way to do it. Lovely performance and strong story telling.
How I enjoy my history told to me in a well-constructed and performed folk ballad and this is certainly one. A strong melody and performance too, Graham.
