The first dog in space

My take on the historical figures theme. I’ve written it as sort of a murder ballad, given the poor dog doesn’t survive. Probably a slightly different approach from other participants but I hope you enjoy it.

  1. Thanks for all your positive comments. I thought I was going to struggle with this months theme, which I thought favours a “folky” approach which is not really my style (although I have nothing against folk music). But I have a painting of Laika by a friend of mine called “I miss the streets of Moscow” which was what inspired the idea, and I thought it was a nice take on the theme.

  2. A very sad story really. Because I’m an extreme dog lover, I can’t say it’s a “lovely” tune. However, It is well written and performed. I’m sure it strikes an emotional chord with many. Good work!

  3. You really drew me into little Laika’s story, Tom. Of all the song’s I’ve heard this month, this is the one that has made the biggest impact on me. There’s an honesty & simplicity to it that I truly admire.

  4. This is a really interesting subject matter. The minor chords add to the pull on the heart strings for the poor dog along with the descending bass line.. Great storytelling.
