Summerhouse

A little tune about the village in South wales where I was raised

  1. Firstly many congratulations to Suzanne on winning the previous challenge and setting this one of places.
I’m a bit late to the party this month as I’ve been nursing a sore throat. During my non singing time I wrote and recorded the guitar parts for this song and today have managed to record a few vocal parts rather than do a live video take and have pulled together a few photos of the place that the song is all about
    Lyrics

    SUMMERHOUSE

I was just a kid playing in the sun
Happy all my friends and me
    Laughing, joking always having fun
Ain’t that the way it’s supposed to be

Used to ride our bikes through the sun and the wind and the rain
    Never bein’ alone
    Kicking footballs scoring winning goals
And everybody’s house was like our own

    At summerhouse on the island
Is where I long to be
    At summerhouse on the island
    Is always home to me

We always had such a good time
    All my friends and me
Life was easy and simple then
Memories come flooding back to me

All these thoughts of days gone by
I begin to form a plan
To return to my childhood days at
    Summerhouse on the island

    At summerhouse on the island
Is where I long to be
    At summerhouse on the island
    Is always home to me

Now take me back to summerhouse on the island
Where my spirt can run free
    At summerhouse on the island
Where it’s always home to me

  2. “Where my spirit can run free”. That’s what happens when we travel back in our memories, isn’t it? We’re running free, with all our worries & responsibilities, aches & pains gone. Thanks for taking me back in your song, Huw. I’m glad you’ve been able to battle through your sore throat etc & produce such an evocative song, finely arranged & with such lush guitar work. ?
