Something More
I wrote it about finally speaking out about the childhood trauma I experienced.
Something More
Bob Raymonda©2023
Inside my storied mind
there’s a wondering restless man
with the heart of a helpless boy
looking for the promise land.
And, he’s broken all their rules
trying to navigate
Through the darkness of doubt
and the blindness of hate.
He’s forever setting sail,
forever leaving shore,
In search of the holy grail
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
And, when he pulled away
and he opened up his mouth,
his course was straight and true
and everything came out.
But, silence still surrounds
the world he travels through,
never speak above a whisper,
they’ll hate you if you do.
He’s forever setting sail,
forever leaving shore,
In search of the holy grail
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
No one, no one ever listened
to a single word he said.
Their promises of being there
still echo in his head.
So, he left them in his wake,
with the sunshine on his face,
on the wind of his new found mission,
in the crest, the curl and the break.
He’s forever setting sail,
forever leaving shore,
In search of the holy grail
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
or maybe something more?
Oh my, Bob I hope writing about it gave you some liberation. It’s a heartbreaking tale but I love the break away and freedom you created in the lyrics with the sunshine on his face and leaving them in his wake, really comjures a great positive image. Small point on audio, I listened through my headphones and struggle to hear everything you were singing so I was grateful for the lyrics printed.
Always good to write about traumatic times, even better to sing them out, personally it’s what keeps me sane!
Well done👏
Good song that conveys a sense of sadness and longing but with a sense of a hopeful, positive turn in the last verse. I’m always struck by the wonderful quality of your voice Bob Raymonda.
Good work Bob, good writing, good performance, well done, on all counts, well done.
Reminds me of Johnny Cash a bit. This song has a lot of promise. You have a very nice singing voice.
I think opening lines are important and you certainly chose a fine one for this song, Bob.
Your interpretation of the theme really resonates with me, Bob. Each day is a new voyage into the unknown. I know that I navigate my own emotional waters that can be very unpredictable but I’m hopefully learning to sail them more skilfully than I used to. Great drive and energy and engaging rhythm too. 💜🌊
I too hope singing/writing about this helps you. A very personal song. Strong chorus. I like it.
I really like the guitar sound, and the chorus is nice and catchy. ‘No one, no one ever listened to a single word he said’, is a very sad line, but I think many people (like me) can relate to it. Hope this song helps you deal with your trauma. Cheers.
