Rites of Passage

I think this song is about optimism, but I'll let you be the judge.

  1. Rites of Passage, Eric Sharp, March 2022

Your first day at school, mum leaves you at the gate
You know you’ve been abandoned, they left you to your fate
But it’s just a rite of passage, something to come through
There’ll be other challenges, so many things to do

This girl means the world to you, but says she doesn’t care
The first but not the last time your heart’s beyond repair
But it’s just a rite of passage, something to come through
There’ll be other challenges, so many things to do

You always were a climber, high up in the tower
Your first taste of failure is sobering and sour
But it’s just a rite of passage, something to come through
There’ll be other challenges, so many things to do

You’ll break through, I’m sure you know
Bad times come, bad times go

It was a long delivery, late into the night
And now the baby’s crying, and blinking in the light
A whole world is unfolding with every passing day
Those other tribulations are somehow swept away

Your first day at school . . .

  2. I always love your voice and lovely smiley face. Beautifull presented with clear meaningful lyrics. I think it’s optimistic too. The whole of life is littered with rite of passage until the last rite! Hmm. Not quite so cheery. I’m off to think.
    Well done Eric.
