Pig In A Coat by Blaza/Brunskill
Hi folks – some of you may recall a hint I posted at the back end of last year that Trudi Brunskill I had got together to record some of the songs we have been co-writing. We reckoned that one of our numbers would answer the call of this month’s #Lovesongchallenge. It’s not a cheerful interpretation on the theme, I guess, taking it into ‘love betrayed’ territory, but we think it qualifies…. Vocals were performed over pre-recorded backing tracks at the Forum Studio in Darlington and captured by resident engineer, Chris Andrews who mixed, the track (and the others). We have some more in the pipeline and hope to be releasing them later in the year…!
Note to self: take more and better photos of recording sessions…
Pig In A Coat
Well I never imagined the look on your face when she walked in
No I never imagined the sky could fall on a pin
All the things I dreamed before, like a man on the moon
Dancing with a wooden spoon
All the things I believed before, like an owl on a boat
And a pig with a coat.
But I never imagined you could do this, this, this…
I never imagined you could do this, this, this…
No I never imagined I’d fall among the thieves
No I never imagined you’d leave me on my knees
In a dead end house with mud on the floor
And a woman turning up
While I’m busy washing down the misery from the night before
No I never imagined you could do this, this, this…
I never imagined you could do this, this, this…
YOU were a promising man
Promising me a steadfast hand
SHE was the thieving kind
She robbed my blind, blind, blind….
No I never imagined the boat would rock like this
No I never imagined the sea storm in her kiss
And never ever imagined I’d be cut off by the tide
While you sailed away in her green eyes
No I never imagined you could do this, this, this…
No I never imagined you could do this, this, this…

I love the repetitiveness coupled with Trudi’s haunting vocals
Very well put together and poetic. I expect with “I never imagined .. you can do this, this, this” will be going round my head for a few days. A great lesson in the value of stimulating the listener’s enquiring mind and imagination with an unresolved question – yes, he’d cooperated in being stolen from her, but what exactly was “this”? (Don’t answer, it’s best left unresolved, as I scour the lyrics for clues!)
This, this, this – great, great, great. Wonderful collaboration
Immaculate! This is so good – looking forward to hearing more of your collatoration!
This is so clever and imaginative, love it a lot
