‘On About Love’

Hi everyone!
Phew! Well, this certainly WAS a challenge this month. Mainly because I’m trying to get to grips with recording onto my Yamaha keyboard with DAW on it. The times I’ve just got a part right and then accidentally erased it! Grrrr! 😩 Basically, I don’t know what I’m doing! Anyway.. it’ll have to do!
The song is about a hero of mine – John Lennon – who I suppose can now be classed as an ‘historical figure’. I was devastated when he was killed and this is just a sort of little tribute to him. As I’ve got older, I’ve realised how much of a flawed human being he was – but I remember Ringo saying a while ago, ‘I look back and most of our songs were about love!’. That’s not a bad legacy!
This is called, ‘On About Love’. ❤️🎶

  1. ‘On About Love’

One dark December day the world woke with a start.
A zero with a .38 had torn the world apart.
And as we gathered underneath a blackened cloud
That laughing, razor voice of yours was singing to the crowd

    And you were
On about love, all about love, songs about love and loving each other.
Talk about love, shout about love, love for your fellow sisters and brothers.

The voice that told us all that love was all we need
Was silenced by the violence of a real unloving deed
You’d made us laugh and cry and wonder at your words
And made us feel that love was real
That voice can still be heard

    And it goes
On about love, all about love, songs about love and loving each other.
Talk about love, shout about love, love for your fellow sisters and brothers

You used to tell us all about how boy meets girl
Then you imagined how we’d make a better world.

On about love, all about love, songs about love and loving each other.
Talk about love, shout about love, love for your fellow sisters and brothers

    So, we’re on about love
It’s the one thing we’re longing for
Just to love and be loved
Maybe that’s all we came here for?

  2. Great sing along tune! I’ve based mine on John Lennon too but it’s very different to this. Ive written it but not got round to videoing it yet. We can compare notes when it’s done but this is a great job. Malster

  3. Nice one John. Lennon is one of my favourites as well, so always like hearing things associated with him. Great effort with the DAW, lovely guitar work. Good all round tune

  4. I really enjoyed this – you managed to get a Lennon-style feel into the lyrics, tune and chords. Well done in fighting your way through the technology – well beyond what I could do!

  5. So much to love in your song, John! Flavoured with Beatles harmonies and chords, you really capture the spirit of that time. I think John would agree with you: it’s all about love 💜.
