Number Ten

Coming up with a rant which is respectful, in the form of a parody, has been a challenge! There's not a lot of respect in this, but I hope the phrase 'with all due respect' covers it!

  1. There is a house in Downing Street, they call it Number Ten And it’s been the ruin of all of us, and it’ll ruin us again
We suffered a pandemic, we had to stay at home The only way to see family, was by zoom or phone
And we couldn’t have a party, or a gathering of friends
But the rules, it seems, did not apply, to those at Number Ten
But worse than all the partying, the excuses and the lies Was the lack of any policy, that would help us all survive
They took us out of Europe, ‘cos they said it made good sense And now we can’t find nurses, to staff the NHS
There’s a cost-of-living crisis, but they don’t help the poor The billionaires and the super-rich, they keep on getting more
And when it comes to climate change, our future is at stake There’s promises and targets, that they always fail to make
And now there is a contest, to be the new PM
A vote to choose the next resident, of the house at Number Ten
But it’s not a real election, you cannot fail to note Cos Tory Party members, are the only ones to vote
I’m going to end my rant here, so with all due respect, If you want a decent leader, well we ain’t had one yet
There is a house in Downing Street, they call it Number Ten And it’s been the ruin of all of us, and it’ll ruin us again

  2. Paul, that was FANTASTIC!! In my opinion yours is the true essence of what I envision as a Parody Song. Your lyrics are witty and spot on. Plus I’ve always loved the Animals, and this melody in particular. Great job and so entertaining.

  3. Hi Paul, Firstly, it’s lovely to hear HOTRS being picked properly – so many people make a hash of it. I can’t fault your sentiments either. I’m still hurting over Brexit, and things have gone downhill ever since. What a mess. On a more positive note me and thee aren’t scared of tackling the big subjects for this challenge – you’ve covered politics, I did religion – can’t wait to see what other members come up with! Cheers.

  4. Great theme, great guitar playing, great choice of song, Paul. You certainly sum up my feelings very succinctly. The melody of HOTRS ( thanks for the abbreviation, Phil G) suits your rant perfectly, as does your voice. ??
