Know I Love Only You

As luck would have it, I had started to try my hand at a Soft Grass style song (a softer version of Blue Grass). So this month’s competition gave me the impetus to finish it off. To help with storyline ideas, I turned to the paintings of Scottish Artist, Jack Vettriano and two paintings in particular: ‘Back Where You Belong’ and ‘Competition Dancers’ and constructed a storyline which I saw as playing out in both of these paintings, namely: Synopsis: Reminiscing on a love affair that was doomed from the start, never really finding that spark again. A sort of a “Brief Encounter” storyline. I seem to remember that in the Andrea Stolpe Masterclass, she mentioned that the Past, Present, Future are often represented in a song BUT never in the Same Section. With this in mind, my verses are set in the past, with the chorus set in the present. Thanks for listening.
LYRICS:

VERSE 1:
Am I a fool to want you,
I’ll walk a little bit faster,
Saying goodbye to the life I knew,

VERSE 2:
But I am reckless it’s true,
Can’t get enough of this madness,
The feeling when I’m with you,

CHORUS:
Tomorrow we’d be older,
Tomorrow we would laugh, the whole, day through,
I wasn’t really strong enough,
But here in my heart,
Know I Love Only You,

VERSE 3:
Don’t care what eyes will see,
I’m holding on to the moment,
The here and now is just what I need,

VERSE 4:
Not everything is a dream,
I’ll trust enough to be careless,
Your passion is my belief,

CHORUS:
Tomorrow we’d be older,
Tomorrow we would laugh, the whole, day through,
I wasn’t really strong enough,
But here in my heart,
Know I Love Only You,

BREAK: Instrumental

CHORUS & OUTRO:
Tomorrow we’d be older,
Tomorrow we would laugh, the whole, day through,
I wasn’t really strong enough,
But here in my heart,
Know I Love Only You,
Here in my heart,
Know I Love Only You,
Here in my heart,
Know I Love Only You,
Know, I’ll Love Only You.

  1. Thank you very much Ian. Sadly, not a real one, it is a VST Banjo (one of the stock instruments that came within the DAW I used) … although I did need to Google the different ‘Banjo Rolls’ (Mixed; Forward; Backward; Forward Reverse …) to work out what to play in the different sections and played them in on my midi keyboard!
