It’s a Little Like

Saskia had us brainstorm what it is like to be part of this group. This is definitely not a theme song, but it does capture how being in this group makes me feel.

  1. Perfectly expresses the blossoming of creativity us over-fifties experience. How lovely to be unfurling and flourishing our songwriter petals in the TisTerhood…

    1. Thank you.. Your brainstorming session was some.Paul in the process…helped me clarify how I really felt. And thanks for conducting such a thoughtful interview. You are definitely an honorary member, especially as I have listened to your loving embrace of the soundscape of my youth… go Dylan!

    1. Thank you, Ian. Here you go!

      It’s a little like breathing in…
this tiny spark, this lightening strike.
And it’s a little like a wide expanse of sky
that spreads across a dying light…
      This softened heart –
these arms wide open to the night.
And all the insecurities of youth –
stumbling ‘cross the landmines that were buried in the ground
Those voices that insisted on my silence are silent now…
      So quiet now.

      It’s a little like surrender to a stream…
to rapids wild in summer heat
And it’s a little like the whisper of a prayer
that floats along the meadow’s breeze
This passing time…this longing for some sweet release..
For all the insecurities of youth-
stumbling ‘cross the landmines that were buried in the ground
Those voices that insisted on my silence are silent now…
      So quiet now.

So I will sing as if the rafters had no end
      because tomorrow has no guarantee
And I will sing as if today will be the last breath
      I will ever breathe…

For all the insecurities of youth-
stumbling ‘cross the landmines that were buried in the ground
Those voices that insisted on my silence are silent now…
      So quiet now.

  2. Another beautiful song Charlotte. You’ve managed to express sadness and insecurity as well as hope and positivity, all in the same set of lyrics. It’s good to hear you do a ‘raw’ version (although I love the vocal harmonies you have on some of your other songs). Lovely singing, as ever.
