Into The Moonlight
I was paired with Martin – what a lovely and interesting bloke! And we have the same non-standard number of fingers..
He told me about playing down by the river and riding on the railway signals gates as a child, about his career as an engineer – and about his leap of faith to become a full time musician. The Daylight/Moonlight theme relates to the film he told me about where the question was whether someone was moonlighting as a musician or daylighting in their day job.
Lyrics:
When I was a boy there were railroads and rivers
the gates down by the signals we would ride
And if we should fall – well the skin would still grow back
And who shall we be when the moonlight comes
And there has to be daylight and the harsh sunlight
But who shall we be when the moonlight comes
I’m taking my chances while the tide is high
to risk an adventure in the moonlight
And there may be no treasure to bring back to shore
but the pleasure is the of working the tide
Proud engineers with our plans and calculations
And steam automations that we ride
I will build us four walls – the shelter of certainty
And we shall be ready when the moonlight comes
And there has to be daylight and the harsh sunlight
But we shall be ready when the moonlight comes
Dive into the moonlight sea
Take this leap of faith with me
Oh this is how its meant to be
These waves of possibility
Oh they’re calling me
I’m taking my chances while the tide is high
to risk an adventure in the moonlight
And there may be no treasure to bring back to shore
but the pleasure is the of working the tide
Lovely Kris, there are some beautiful phrases in this. Sensitively performed as well. I am still working on mine!!
Gorgeous Kris 🙂 Thank you for posting 🙂
Hi Kris. Thank you for putting my life into a song. A very cleaver representation of our discussion in metaphor, especially “no treasure” and the “sun and moon” concept. Still not recorded my song for you and the month is nearly over – as they told me many times at school, “must try harder.”
“Who shall we be when the moonlight…”. I adore this Line… isn’t that a question we all ask. “No treasure to bring back to shore….” that whole image is beautiful. I actually think this is one of my favorite songs of yours….
