I’ll Get To It Later
Is it that time already? I got up real early, with a list as long as my arm
And it isn’t any shorter, I know that I ought to have knocked off a dozen
And got down to the farm
But there’s this space where she used to be and I can’t bring myself to hate her
I’m trying to explain that I’m not to blame
And that list, well I’ll get to it later.
I’ve got calls to return from some people who’ll earn me
Some money from giving them advice.
And a note from my brother, saying there’ll be another
And that he works with a girl who thinks that I’m nice.
But there’s this silence where she used to be
And no way that I’ll replicate her
I’m not in a state and those jobs they can wait
Till I’m ready, I’ll get to them later.
I’m wasting my time trying to figure out why my friend had to leave
Maybe I’ll find an answer to give me a chance of reprieve..
[Guitar solo]
But there’s this space where she used to be and I can’t bring myself to hate her
I’m trying to explain that I’m not to blame
And that list, well I’ll get to it later…
Missed a month or two but this theme seemed to inspire me…and I was putting it off, putting it off, and then it came…
Gorgeous, Hugh. The heartbreak is tangible. I love how you dare to slow it right down to draw out the poignancy. It allows your luscious guitar work to glow through. The high part in the middle is simply beautiful.
Wow, thank you, Suzanne. I’m afraid I’m a sucker for a slow waltz! Middle 8 took its time getting here so I gave it some welly when it did!
Great stuff Hugh. I like the real laid back feel and the vocal space just before you sing the title line works perfectly
Really beautifully done Hugh. When it started it brought to mind Kris Kristofferson but then I love the way, when the guitar solo kicks in, it has an almost Medieval, Spanish feel to it. Then it made me think of Al Stewart. Impressive guitar work, well recorded. Will keep an eye out for more from you.
Lovely and laid back! And poignant lyrics
You’ve created heartbreak in that song, the emotion of the lyrics shine through and the musical accompaniment accentuates. Some really lovely chord progressions and very tasty guitar word.
