I Need Some Comfort Now

Memories of that time in life when the pressure’s on and time is short. Sorry it’s rushed and rough and ready! A better recording will emerge in due course.
The lyrics are below.
G
8.30 on a Saturday Morning, another week rolls by
B7 C G
My body aches, my head it takes some time to justify
B7
Everybody wants a piece of me, to please all won’t be done

Pre Chorus
C G D G C G D
I try my best, like all the rest, but I need, some comfort now

Chorus 1
G B7 C G
I pull on my favourite sweater, It’s been with me for so long
C
It’s full of holes and all too baggy
G D G C G D
It gives me comfort, keeps me warm

Take the planner from the wall, see what must be done
To turn the wheels and make things work whatever comes along
Tugging here and pulling there, my time is spread so thin

Pre Chorus
C G D G C G D
I try my best, like all the rest, but I need, some comfort now

Chorus 2
G B7 C G
I pull on my favourite sweater, It’s been with me for so long
C
It’s full of memories footloose freedom
G D G C G D
It gives me comfort, keeps me warm

Bridge

Em D C D
Just a little window on my world, I wouldn’t change it if I could
Em D
I’m at that point where life’s in flood
C D
If I could add an hour to each day I surely would

G
The weekend closes my work is done all are fast asleep

A little time for me to breathe a little time for me to keep

Keepsakes of the weekend gone locked firmly in my mind

Pre Chorus
C G D G C G D
I did my best, like all the rest, but I need, some comfort now

Chorus 3
G B7 C G
I pull on my favourite sweater, It’s been with me for so long
C
I’m thankful for my favourite sweater
G D G C G D C G
It gives me comfort, keeps me warm keeps me warm

  1. Lovely song Cath, very relatable. Thanks for sharing the chords too – the B7 sounds beautiful in your song. As I’m still learning the guitar I haven’t used this chord before but I’ve now looked it up and hope to include it in some future melodies – thank you 🎶

  2. Love that Cath. Great melody and live those flourishes pre chorus. Performance sounds great to me but I’m sure this song is one to take forward for the full recording treatment.

  3. There’s something quite special about such “item” songs, Catherine, and how an item in lyric can relate not only to the lyricist/performer but also to the readers/listeners by way of its comforting images and ear-candy sound. The storyteller in this piece may have needed and gotten comfort by wrapping in a favorite old sweater, but it’s this lyric/song that comforts all who read and hear it as it wraps them, however brief, with tender care and tranquility in an otherwise complex world. Nicely done!

  4. Beautiful song Cath. The melody and chord sequence perfectly match the lyrical content. You describe the stresses of life very evocatively, and yes, I have a favourite sweater too! ‘Rough and ready’ is often how I like to listen to music, by the way.

  5. I could never get a grip on writing a personal item song, eventhouth I find the concept to be one of the most interesting. Your lyrics always transport me to thoughts and moments in time that should be familiar to anyone with an observant mind. You have a beautiful view of the world and life around you. Sometimes a sweater is not just a sweater. Great song!

  6. Oh so relatable, Cath! “Everyone wants a piece of me” – ain’t that the truth. A strong, confident rhythm that carries us throughout. And that sweater!! I’ve got none too; an old one of my Dad’s that my Mum knitted. Love in every stitch. We all need one, just like every family needs someone like you. Xx
