Freedom
Lyrics written by: Jayne Ingles & Stuart David Ingles. Music/melody by: Jayne Ingles
Chorus
Freedom, Oh Freedom
Is not for the free
Freedom, Oh Freedom
For everyone to see
Vs1
People working can’t make ends meet
Homeless people sleep on the street
All rely on the gifts of others
All are children, Sisters and Brothers
Chorus
Freedom, Oh Freedom
Is not for the free
Freedom, Oh Freedom
For everyone to see
Vs2
No freedom of guilt, unable to provide
The cost of bread to keep us alive
Material things do not matter
The poor get thinner the rich get fatter
Chorus
Freedom, Oh Freedom
Is not for the free
Freedom, Oh Freedom
For everyone to see
Bridge
Four walls may hold them
Tho’ not a prison cell
Fragments of distraction
Keeps them from hell
Chorus
Freedom, Oh Freedom
Is not for the free
Freedom, Oh Freedom
For everyone to see
Vs 3
Mentally trudging through time found
Thoughts of freedom, inward bound
Finding pieces we had scattered
Only hugs and kisses mattered
Chorus x 2
Freedom, Oh Freedom
Is not for the free
Freedom, Oh Freedom
For everyone to see
slow
Freedom, Oh Freedom
We can all be Free
Lovely lilting song – and seems very apt for the season. I love the line about only hugs and kisses. Good one.
I love this song. Easy to listen to. A powerful message, and a hook/chorus that makes it memorable.
Thank you Richard.
Thank you Kris.
Really nice song Jayne and a topic so up to the minute. Lovely guitar picking as well
Thanks Huw.
All are children, sisters and brothers.. I always think that. Really well written poignant lyric and an enjoyable melody to carry the message. Loved your performance Jayne.
Lovely Jayne and sadly seems very reflective of our current times. Freedom is not for the free is a great lyric and is a catchy hook. Lovely guitar work and singing too.
Lovely song, really enjoyed it.
A song that is both topical and timeless. Well sung and well played. Nice one, Jayne.
A thought-provoking song with a memorable melody and slowing towards the end is very effective. The line about “no freedom from guilt, unable to provide” is very poignant..
Great song with political content..always good! Protest songs are rare these days it seems, am all for them since Bob Dylan…..great guitar work too 🙂
This is great Jayne. Love the lyric and melody and the effect of the middle eight. Guitar and voice sounding great.
Thank you everyone for all of your lovely encouraging comments and for taking the time to listen xx
