Forthlin Walls
This is really a catalogue song which I wrote over a year ago. It’s about number 20 Forthlin Road Sir Paul’s childhood home where many of the Beatles early songs were written. It is now managed by the National Trust together with Johns home Mendips and a must tour if you come to Liverpool. I am a bit last minute submitting this because me and my songwriting partner in crime Fred decided it would be fitting to make a video that showed off our city waterfront. The aim of the song is to capture the sound of the era and tell a story that might tempt people to visit where it all began. It’s a tribute to humble beginnings, the development of great talent and unstoppable creativity. Both Sir Paul and Mike remain ambassadors for Merseyside and the performing arts here. Sir Paul’s inspiration will never end. I hope you enjoy our original song with echoes of those beginnings.

Forthlin Walls
Intro
Right here within these Forthlin Walls
Oh, Yeah , Yeah, Yeah
Right here within these Forthlin Walls
Verse 1
Jim would put the kettle on
While Paul and John were getting on
Trying to write a song everyday
Mike would take a photograph
Of moody faces for a laugh
You’ll make big he’d always say
You could hear the strumming chords
Bouncing off the fireplace tiles
From the house of hope and dreams
Running on for miles and miles
Oh Yeah
Chorus
Did a hundred ways to say I love you
Drift down the Mersey River
Did it travel on a summer breeze
Into these Forthlin wells forever
Where ideas and memories waited
To join the melodies being created
Right here within these Forthlin Walls
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
Right here within these Forthlin Walls
Verse 2
Echoes from the Mendips Porch
Would cry out for a lead from George
Played out in this Forthlin Room
Ringo Beating on a case
Would mark the time and set the pace
To make a Cavern dancing tune
While Outside the world was waiting
Looking out for something new
Hamburg days and America
Working hard to make it true
Oh Yeah
Chorus
Did a hundred ways to say I love you
Drift down the Mersey River
Did it travel on a summer breeze
Into these Forthlin wells forever
Where idea and memories were waited
To join the melodies being created
Right here within these Forthling Walls
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Right here within these Forthlin Walls
Bridge
Eight days a week turned into eight years
From Love me do to Let it be
And when your standing in these four walls
You can feel it’s history
Oh yeah
Chorus
Did a hundred ways to say I love you
Drift down the Mersey River
Did it travel on a summer breeze
Into these Forthlin wells forever
Where idea and memories were waited
To join the melodies being created
Right here within these Forthling Walls
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Right here within these Forthlin Walls
Can you feel it now?
Right here within these Forthlin Walls
That was joyous Malster. Loving the Yeh,yeah’s.
Nicely put together. Final chord clinched the deal👍
This is great Mal! Very catchy melody, love the chorus and the line “did 100 ways to say I love you drift down the Mersey river”. The video is brilliant too – makes the whole production even more enjoyable👏 😃.
Thanks Phil
Certainly had lots of joy making the video.
Fred came up with the last chord!
Pickermost of the Pops! Loved it, excellent title too.

Thank for your feedback Anne. That line came quickly and the whole song really. Lots of work went into this one and a field trip. Glad you liked it. I meant to post the lyrics. Thanks. M
Managed to add the lyrics to the description section. Makes for a lot of scrolling but handy if you want to sing along! Thanks for all your positive comments.
Great song and video.
Thanks Derek

Hey Mal I’ve been off for a couple of weeks and its nice to come such an engaging and enjoyable tune. The video location is perfect. A great idea as well for a starting point for the song. We “did” Liverpool for my 60th birthday a couple of years ago. The mystery tour coach trip, the house visits the ferry and ended the evening in the Cavern. Your song bought it all back!
Thanks Mark. If you come back this way again let me know we can meet up for a plate of scouse and a beer! Very , very late I just posted another song I wrote over the last few days. Had some technical issues, not as polished as I would like but at least I made the deadline. Cheers. M
Yes Mal, I liked this one too. A great flavour of the Liverpool sound I remember but I really liked the personal nature of the other one you posted.
Thanks Mike I appreciate your comments. M 👍
Great song and I love the setting for the video! Gets my vote
Thanks Cath
It got featured on Radio Merseyside last week so I am very lucky with this one. Mal x
