‘Empty Nest’

I posted this song a few months ago on the Facebook group before I knew anything about the monthly challenges. It seemed apt for the competition theme for this month so here it is. It’s basically a reassuring song which says, ‘It doesn’t matter what trouble you find yourself in, I/we will always love and support you.’
It’s called ‘Empty Nest’

The leaves are falling down
They kiss me as they pass
And tell me of the stories that were never meant to last.
You needed pills, you needed wine
Just to relax, just to unwind
A false economy.
In your longing to be free.

You left the comfort of your instability
And for a while the voices promised that they’d let you be.
They told you lies and you sacrificed
The things that really gave you life
You’ve been fighting for too long.
All your strength will soon be gone

So when you need to rest come fly into our empty nest
Where it’s safe to love and you’ll feel safe in love
Let your fear disappear away.

You think your life is over
It’s really just begun
Funny how when you surrender it turns out that you’ve won!
But if you ever find yourself cast adrift with no-one else
And your worries start to weigh
Remember what I say…

That when you need to rest come fly into our empty nest
Where it’s safe to love and you’ll feel safe in love
Let your fear disappear away.

  1. Yes, a lovely sentiment, nice performance, vocal and guitar work, and a good chorus to anchor it. For me it seemed a bit ponderous but perhaps I’m just impatient to get on with the listening marathon that this Chasllenge entails!
