Dreams And Hopes And Wishes
This began life as a poem which I wrote a good few years ago, but thought it a good fit for this month's challenge. Here are the lyrics.
Back in time,
When love was young,
Lying in the sun,
Our bodies twined,
Like twisting vines,
Concealed in bushes,
The river rushes,
It’s song sublime,
Of passioned rhyme
And you say …
Dreams and hopes and wishes,
Dart like little fishes,
Slipping through our fingers,
Fleeting thoughts that linger,
Father deeds that yet to come.
Side by side,
We drift in sleep,
In grasses sweet,
The river flows
Your breathing slows,
I watch your face,
In shadowed space,
Behind your eyes,
There are no lies,
Just signs that say …
Dreams and hopes and wishes,
Dart like little fishes,
Slipping through our fingers,
Fleeting thoughts that linger,
Father deeds that yet to come.
Time moves on,
The wind blows cold,
Your eyes grow old,
Our bodies stiffen,
No longer quicken,
The river waits,
A crossing gate,
But I still find,
That in my mind,
You still say …
Dreams and hopes and wishes,
Dart like little fishes,
Slipping through our fingers,
Fleeting thoughts that linger,
Father deeds that yet to come.
Dreams and hopes and wishes,
Dart like little fishes,
Slipping through our fingers,
Fleeting thoughts that linger,
Father deeds that yet to come.
Lovely!
Very brave to present a song a Capella but you have a lovely voice that holds the folk style really well. After a TisT course last weekend I would suggest watching out for obvious rhymes. But sometime they’re reassuring too. Well done 👍
Fascinating and well crafted lyrics. Lovely
That’s enchanting, Sue. I often sing unaccompanied in the woods behind our house in the mornings. If there were a river there, I could imagine singing this The “little fishes”; what a beautiful image. And your voice is tuneful, strong but sensitive. Thank you for sharing.
That’s lovely and as said above, a brave effort to go acapella, however, it works very well. Great job
