Bricks and Mortr
Bricks & Mortar (DADGAD, capo 2)
A future filled with castles in the air
Will crash & burn, crash & burn
Forsaking the foundations we all share.
One day we’ll learn, we have to learn…
We create with our hearts & build with our minds
What we are building now, we will leave behind…
Our bricks & mortar x2
Will be the songs, love & laughter that we leave
When we leave, when we leave…
We build our Towers of Babel to the sky
Hoping heaven hears our name, hears our name.
On the bonfire of our vanities we die,
We bear the shame
Bear the blame.
We create with our hearts & build with our minds
What we are building now, we will leave behind…
Our bricks & mortar x2
Will be the songs, love & laughter that we leave
When we leave…
All we have is one another
To rebuild & to recover
All we have is one another
To be the bricks & mortar.
To be the bricks & mortar.
Another beautiful song Suzanne, with a profound message. Well done in getting your fingers round DADGAD!
Hi Suzanne, another great song from your good self. I’m reading an environmental message here – the destruction of the planet – but I guess there are many interpretations. Either way, I admire your sentiments that ‘One day we’ll learn’ I wish I was so optimistic. ‘On the bonfire on our vanities we die’ is a cracking line. I echo Paul’s sentiments about DADGAD – well done! I’ve only tried Open D so far, which is cool. Cheers.
A strong and thoughtful song. Enjoyed the listen.
Lovely song – and I love the line ” Our bricks & mortar Will be the songs, love & laughter that we leave “. Wonderful!
Beautiful Suzanne. I really enjoyed this. The DADGAD really suits this song. Your voice carries this melody so well.
Note to self! Must check website more. Thank you for your comments, beautiful people!
Thank you for listening, Stephen. I must admit the theme caught me at a dark time. I was glad to be able to make the chorus positive. I need to believe our small acts of creativity matter in some degree.
Kris! Your challenge flummoxed me initially. I’ve never owned a house, never borne a child, but I’m in love with this planet & all of us who share it. Thank you for helping me conjure something into being with these thoughts.
Julie! If there were ever a songbird, it’s you. Thank you for your comments & being so
kind about my voice. It’s no longer at its best & I gave up on it for so many years but I hope it carries some of the emotion I feel when I sing, even if the technical quality is lacking. I’m not sure if I’ll use DADGAD much more; we’ll see. But it helped me to write this song so maybe I’ll experiment again. 😊
Beautiful as ever Suzanne 😍. I love the shift from minor to major for the chorus, it really gives it a lovely lift to match the lyrics.
Gorgeous as always, I agree with Bec, the major lift for the chorus is brilliant.
Thank you for listening, Bec and Andy. I couldn’t leave the song in gloom & doom ; I always like to find a positive. 😊
Love it Suzanne. Agree with others about the lift in the chorus. Also, I’m a sucker for anything in DADGAD
Thanks for listening, Huw. It’s good to experiment now & again! 😊
Great song and love that minor to major shift!
